Dolomites Fishing Adventures
Fly Fishing Trip or Lodge Details:
We strongly suggest that you consider a few days in each location –
Italy, Austria and Slovenia. Waters and fishing conditions change, so the
ability to be a little flexible will work to your advantage. Each trip is
individually designed to your fishing desires and the best available waters.
Streams, rivers and small ponds are available. Most have reservation
requirements, special permits, and limited access. The target fish are
browns, rainbows, marble, hybrid, brookies and grayling. All in very ample
size. Lodging is at small, local pensions or hotels. Breakfast is usually
included with the accommodations. Dinner is at a local restaurant.
Season Information
The fishing season starts as early as the second Sunday in February for
grayling and trout. So if you want to combine skiing and fly fishing, in
Cortina you can do it! In the Veneto region, the fishing season starts the
first Sunday of March, and the fishing is very good during the warmer hours
of the day. April is excellent for fly fishing and May is good too if the
rivers not affected by runoff. During May and June the Slovenian rivers will
offer incredible hatches of insects: Unec, Idrjica and Sava will be at their
top! July and August are warmer months and fly fishing in small mountain
rivers with fast waters will be a perfect. In Austria there are different
good rivers for this period!
In the Veneto area, the fishing season closes on the last Sunday of
September, but there are other rivers in Slovenia, Austria and Trentino Alto
Adige (Italy), which offer beautiful autumn fly fishing moments. Some rivers
are fishable until the end of November.
