Estancia Del Zorro, Chile
Fly Fishing Trip and Lodge Details:
Estancia del Zorro is in the Coyhaique Alto mountain range on the Chilean-Argentine border, 23 miles northeast of Coyhaique, Chile. The 15,000-acre Estancia rests in the habitat of the red fox (zorro), the namesake of the lodge. An abundance of condors, eagles, many other birds, and unexplored waters full of brown trout enticing fly fishers and bird watchers to experience fly fishing in Chile, the beautiful countryside, and to follow the trail of the red fox.
The waters at Estancia del Zorro include streams, rivers and spring creeks; all located within the boundaries of the 15,000-acre Estancia or a short drive from the lodge. Many of these waters are seldom fished, and some have only recently been discovered, producing diverse fishing conditions. While some offer exciting dry-fly action, others require challenging sight fishing in pristine, crystal clear waters where fish can grow as large as 32 inches.
The Estancia Del Zorro spring creek, a mere 200 yards from the lodge, offers easy walk-in fishing for large, heavy brown trout. You will also have the unique opportunity to explore private freestone streams in both Argentina and Chile, two countries in one trip, reached within an hour ride by four-wheel-drive vehicles from the lodge.
Finally, the Rio Simpson, the crown dry-fly jewel of the Coyhaique region, is available to float and just one hour from the lodge. This river is divided into three distinct river types: the gravelly runs and pools of the smaller upper river hold large rainbows and browns, the middle stretches contain long gravel bars where king salmon spawn, and the lower river has long deep boulder-filled runs that provide some of South America’s best match-the-hatch fishing to large browns and rainbows.
The Fishing:
Big browns and rainbows. Dries, streamers and nymphs. From the Lodge fishing trips are by drift boat, raft or jet boat, horseback, on foot, or 4-wheeldrive vehicles are organized. The guides will accompany you during all expeditions and will be pleased to offer you their services and knowledge of the area, the fish and the fishing.
