Fly Fishing Iceland

Fly Fishing Trip and Lodge Details:

Fly Fishing Iceland sets the standards expected for professional and expert fly fishing guides. All guides work hard, with patience and determination, to give guests a productive and memorable day of fishing.

Day trips or longer trips for salmon or trout can easily be arranged.

For trout fishing, 3-6 weight, 9 foot rods work well. For salmon, 6-8 weight single handed rods, or longer switch- or spey-rods (12-1/2-14 feet).

The Fishing:

DAY TRIPS: A day trip for trout and char to high quality waters near Reykjavik is perfect for a short break from the capitol of Iceland.

LAKE FISHING: Lake fishing is a 40 minute drive from Reykjavik. Char run 1-2 kg, and browns over 10 kg are caught each year. Lake Thingvellir is the usual destination.

BROWN TROUT: Brown trout trips can cover many lakes and streams, usually north of Reykjavik. Average catch? 15-20 trout, 1-2 kg in size and a good day of fishing would keep you busy! And bigger trout are always possible.

CHAR FISHING: Char fishing in Iceland is very good. Char can sometimes be the most challenging fish in Iceland to catch. Patience is required! Char average 1-2 kg; bigger fish to 4 kg.

MOUNTAIN FISHING: Mountain fishing in Iceland is probably one of the best-hidden secrets. If you like magnificent scenery, stunning mountains and hard volcanic land forms, then this is the place.  Here you can catch hard fighting char and colorful browns in mountain lakes or craters and mountain rivers. And with less pressure.

ICELAND'S BEST TROUT WATERS: Lake Thingvellir is for the big brown trout, or combine the Holá River with Lake Thingvellir to include good char fishing.

Mountain fishing in Landmannalaugar is very nice; very good char fishing; brown trout as well, but they are not as big (0,5 kg to 2,5 kg).

The Laxa River is suggested for dry fly fishing – excellent for brown trout.
